The Pantheon of Angrea

Divine power in Angrea flows from the eternal siblings who have existed since time immemorial. From their cosmic conflict springs all divine magic, channeled through the ascended gods who serve them - or those brave enough to forge their own path between Light and Dark.

The Eternal Siblings

• Iliana - Goddess of Light

  Symbol: A Sun Iliana is one of the two Eternal Siblings who have existed since time immemorial, representing light, life, and the eternal struggle against darkness. Her power is carried in the infinite lattice of suns that travel above Angrea from nightward to sunward.

  Iliana has few mortal followers, but will sometimes interact with lower deities. She is known to favor Ilithor, for instance. Those followers she does have tend to be either healers, protectors, or scholars. With a small but significant group of followers among those whose work starts before dawn; bakers, farmers, lamplighters.

  Classes

  Seraph:

  Seraphs of Iliana tend to fall into two camps. Protectors and scholars. Protectors devote themselves to defending those who cannot defend themselves. Scholars scour the isles for lost secrets that could shine light upon the countenance of She Who Brings Dawn.

  Communities

  Orderborne:

  While few people devote themselves to Iliana directly, knowing she rarely takes part in mortal affairs, a few communities scattered across the isles do center her worship as part of their way of life. These tend to be pacifistic and rural communities, with rituals and festivals centered around Iliana’s role as mother of the suns and enforcer of their celestial order.

  The Chosen: If Iliana has chosen you, it’s most likely to sacrifice yourself for the greater good. Dying while defeating a great evil. Abandoning those you love to seek knowledge. Destroying something you care about for the greater good.

  The Devoted: If you’ve chosen to devote yourself to Iliana, it is a devotion that may never be acknowledged. If it ever is, it is most likely to ask even more from you than you have already given. When Iliana deigns to pay attention to mortal affairs, things may turn out well for a community, or a people, or the entire world; but they rarely turn out well for those who champion her.

• Korin - Goddess of Dark

  Symbol: A Moon Darkness, destruction, change, rebirth, renewal. Her impulsiveness has destroyed civilizations. But a forest fire clears the way for new growth. The storm feeds the plants so that they might grow.

• The Balance

  Symbol: A Solar Eclipse Not a deity but an ideal - the philosophy that both light and dark are necessary for existence. Few followers believe Iliana and Korin will ever embrace this truth, but those who walk the middle path find power in accepting both aspects of divinity.

  Life requires both darkness and light. Family endures. Sisters fight because they care. Order and change. Without one, chaos. Without the other? Stagnation.

The Chrysian Pantheon

Ascended to godhood around the time of the founding of the Chrysian Empire. Listed in order of ascendance, according to popular legend.

• Aetherias - God of Death

  Symbol: Bandaged Hand God of Death whose followers oversee care of the deceased. Driven somewhat mad by Karria’s affair with Bria. Rumored to be the first mortal to ascend via dark ritual. On-and-off relationship with Katarina. Known to dwarves as The Shifting Sand.

• Karria - Goddess of Art

  Symbol: Columbina Mask Patron of all artists - musicians, actors, painters, sculptors, writers. Her affair with Bria sparked the events leading to mass ascension. Nominally balanced but associates more with Korin’s gods. Many relationships including Leonas, Ferallia, Jahiel, and Coverias. Deep friendship with Caemeer. Known to elves as Rekaliana.

• Bria - Goddess of Untamed Nature (Coastlines)

  Symbol: White Raven Recently realized her true gender identity. Her affair with Karria before ascension sparked events leading to the pantheon’s rise. One of three nature goddesses, she governs the chaotic beauty where land meets sea. Currently close with Daltria. Known to elves as Lo Valis.

• Canaedus - God of Arcane Magic

  Symbol: A Quill First to accurately map the five spheres of magic. His temples resemble libraries and universities. Past relationships with Leonas and Caemeer. Harbors unrequited feelings for Coverias. Known to orcs as Ro.

• Ferallia - Goddess of Untamed Nature (Forests)

  Symbol: A Tree More interested in Angrea’s welfare than Iliana’s ambitions. Often depicted with a black panther, though also associated with horses and squirrels. Favored patron of centaurs. Her affair with Karria allegedly killed an entire Koranthian forest. Spends time with Batus, Torris Fortis, and Bria.

• Katarina - Goddess of Destiny

  Symbol: A Tornado Recent addition to the pantheon, ascended with Aetherias’ help. Former priestess of Aetherias. Ensures people reach their destined deaths, intervening when greater destinies are threatened. Relationships with Aetherias, Zollo, and especially Coverias. Known to orcs as Tarine.

• Batus - God of the Harvest

  Symbol: Flowering Bush The Green Father, looked to by farmers and gardeners. His temples are grandiose greenhouses. Mediator between Caemeer and Coverias’ natures. Spends time with Ferallia (orchards are dedicated to them both). Known for falling in love with mortals - many farm families claim his ancestry. Known to orcs as Lat.

• Coverias - Deity of the Ocean

  Symbol: Cresting Wave Uses they/them pronouns. Not pledged to either sibling. Called upon by sailors, especially pirates. Temples are ship shrines, particularly on Sea Dwarf vessels. Relationships with Karria, Katarina, and notable mortal captains. Rarely reveals divine nature to mortal partners. Known to dwarves as Nikt Shipshaper.

• Caemeer - God of Poets, Madmen, and Mathematicians

  Symbol: Infinity Symbol Traveled with Batus and Coverias as mortal. Ascended with Bria’s help. Aids truth-seekers regardless of the sanity cost. Occasional time with Canaedus. Known for relationships with mortals.

• Leonas - Korin’s Personal Champion

  Symbol: Raised Fist Originally traveled with Ilithor’s group but chose a different path. Rumors suggest an intimate relationship with Korin herself. Revels in spreading war and chaos. Past relationships with Canaedus and Karria. Known to orcs as Lor.

• Patrikia - Goddess of Untamed Nature (Plains)

  Symbol: A Fish Third goddess of untamed nature, governing the wide plains and prairies. Depicted with deer antlers growing from her forehead or in silhouette. Her temples are rest stops with followers serving as innkeepers. Maintains an on-and-off relationship with Ilithor. Known to dwarves as Amaryn Undersea.

• Jahiel - God of Deception

  Symbol: Black Coin with Hooded Figure The False Face whose followers masquerade as followers of other gods. Hidden shrines to Jahiel exist in other gods’ temples. Maintains an on-and-off relationship with Karria. Anything said about Jahiel is probably a lie. Known to dwarves as The Darkest Shadow.

• Ilithor - God of Order

  Symbol: Warhammer before a Halo Leader of the Light-aligned gods, Ilithor’s temples serve as small claims courts throughout the Empire. He adventured with Bria, Canaedus, Leonas, and Ferallia before their ascension. Occasional paramour of Patrikia. Known to dwarves as Carn Hammerfall.

• Torris Fortis - God of Just War

  Symbol: A Tower Invoked by soldiers in unavoidable combat. Temples serve as military academies. Originally traveled with Aetherias’ group but grew distant, siding with Ilithor against former companions. Personal time with Ferallia, close friend of Bria. Known to elves as Brelanthalus.

• Zollo - God of Assassins

  Symbol: A Snake Right hand of Aetherias and favored patron of House Aeth. Temples remain hidden throughout the Empire. His devotion to Aetherias may go beyond mere fealty. Known to elves as Assassin.

The New Pantheon

Following the Chrysian Pantheon by several centuries, a new wave of ascensions occurred leading up to the Empire's industrial golden age. These gods represent the changing face of Angrea as technology and tradition clash. As above, listed in order of ascension.

• Revina - Goddess of Games and Chance

  Symbol: Hand of Cards Lady Luck, patron of gamblers, game players, and those who live by chance. Neither good nor evil, simply chaotic and playful. Said to personally shuffle the deck for important games of Torris’ Gambit. Her temples often double as casinos and gaming houses.

• Riffil Thrish - Goddess of Manipulation

  Symbol: A Bottle of Yellow Liquid

• Mollrue - Goddess of Revelry

  Symbol: Rope Coiled in a Figure 8 The Velvet Chain ascended during a legendary three-day festival that broke boundaries between noble and common. Her temples feature elaborate sound chambers where rhythmic beats induce trance states. Teaches that true power comes from making others want to serve. Parent to several demi-god children who serve as her festival organizers.

• Nimistral - Goddess of Sound and Innovation

  Symbol: Tuning Fork Ascended while performing a concert that synchronized with ancient ley lines. Their temples double as concert halls and workshops where new instruments are invented. Known for teaching mortals to weave magic into music through crystalline resonators. Protective of young artists and inventors rejected by their families.

• Alechai - Twin Deities of Revolution and Song

  Symbol: Two Interlocking Triangles Unique among gods for maintaining two distinct forms sharing one divine essence. The fey-touched revolutionary brings ordered chaos - methodical in dismantling systems. The folk singer preserves history through song while advocating for change. Their temples feature strategy rooms that echo with protest songs.

• Mixgee - Deity of Collaboration and Craft

  Symbol: Interlocking Gears Forming Heart The Community Forge ascended while creating a revolutionary water purification system for drought-stricken villages. Temples are maker spaces where all are welcome to learn and build. Philosophically opposed to Hessio but they maintain cordial relations. Known for manifesting to help communities rebuild after disasters.

• Yusha - Goddess of Vehicles and Strategic Knowledge

  Symbol: Wheel with Wings The Steel Scholar ascended after creating the first successful military airship. Temples are combination museums and libraries focusing on transportation innovation. Devoted follower of Katarina, finding divine beauty in precision and planning.

• Sublina - Goddess of Unusual Beauty

  Symbol: Eye Inside a Leaf Also known as Erisanthe. Ascended while painting a forest that came alive and grew into another plane. • Kareen - Deity of Hospitality and Gathering

  Symbol: Plate with Three Dice The Hearth Keeper ascended during a dinner party that lasted three months and brokered peace between warring Houses. Temples are grand kitchens where all are welcome. Sacred rule: No one leaves their table hungry or without playing at least one game. Known for magnificent beard woven with recipes and game rules.

  Symbol: Tiny Snarling Dog The Small Defender ascended while protecting a single garden from an entire army without violence. Partner to Kareen, they share interconnected temples. Teaches that the smallest creatures often have the fiercest hearts. Beloved by farmers and those who choose compassion over conflict.

• Relle - Deity of Calculated Joy

  Symbol: Ledger with Rose Petals The Rose-Crowned Reveler ascended after throwing a party so economically perfect it generated wealth for all attendees. Temples function as combination banks and party venues. Teaches that true revelry requires proper planning and accounting.

• Lutariel - Goddess of Beauty

  Symbol: Hand Mirror The Painted Whisper ascended after their beauty techniques literally stopped a war. Married to Daltria. Temples teach the arts of presentation, persuasion, and aesthetic magic. Created the “Whisper Meditations” - barely audible prayers that calm the mind.
