Neuros University

Type: Neighborhood | District: Bevgren’s Green | City: Chrysanth

Ambitious. Innovative. Certain it knows best.

Marble amphitheatre classrooms. Fountains everywhere you turn. The distant hum of airship engines from the campus dock.

Overview

House Neuros inventions and magic help push the city forward, and nowhere is this more evident than at the university that bears their name. Famed for its research into utilizing arcane orbs to power airships, Neuros University is known for believing that knowledge runs the city. Emprix Jania agrees with this sentiment. They disagree on who has the most knowledge.

The campus sprawls across a significant portion of Bevgren’s Green, its own small airship dock marking the sunrim edge.

Landmarks

  • The Airship Box

Sunrim corner. Five stories tall, an atrium built around a full-sized airship. Doesn’t look like it should stand, but it does. Somebody spent way too much on this. Students have learned to ignore the feeling it might fall on them at any moment. Some people think it’s lame. Airship enthusiasts are not among them.

  • The Loft

Very center of campus. Domed ceilings painted with murals of famous mages. Walls lined floor-to-ceiling with books. Almost, but not quite, a library. Because it’s actually a temple to Canaedus.

  • Ashworth Memorial Library

Heartward edge of campus. Where most day-to-day studying actually happens. Reading rooms are often commandeered as meeting spaces for student clubs and organizations.

Residents

  • Head Dean Geoffrey Adelson (he/him)

House Canae Despite the university’s name, House Canae maintains significant influence over academic matters.

  • Lorekeeper Davis Gilman (he/him)

Clergy of Canaedus | Overseer of The Loft Elderly Orc gentleman. Stuffy. Part clergy, part librarian. Gets genuinely excited when people come to The Loft. Uptight about keeping the shelves in order and the temple clean.

  • Professor Callista Venn (she/her)

Department of Filimancy Teaches the magic of connections between people, ideas, and things. Known for identifying links others miss. Soft-spoken but intense. Office walls covered in string-and-pin diagrams.

  • Professor Aldous Pemberton

Retired archivist. Recently left the city. Was studying the history of arcane orbs.

The Orb & Anchor Collective

A student organization that provides emergency orb assistance to [[Steamlings]] and advocates for Steamling rights.

Founding Members

  • Coppelia Vance (she/her)

Steamling | 3rd Year | Alchemancy & Arcane Theory The strategist. Scholarship from House Neuros. Chose her name herself, from a tragic opera.

  • Wendell Bridger (he/him)

Steamling | 2nd Year | Archemancy & Civil Engineering The heart of the group. Former airship yard laborer. Carries his dead overseer’s pocket watch. Desperately wants to understand the nature of the arcane orbs that power Steamlings and airships alike.

  • Jessamine vel Thursen (she/her)

Human | 4th Year | Logomancy & Comparative Theology From a minor branch of the Neuros family tree that fell from favor roughly 150 years ago. Writes the recruitment flyers.

  • Tobias Inkwell (he/him)

Half-Elf | 3rd Year | Journalism Publishes the Gear & Whistle broadsheet, a newsletter about the plight of Steamlings across the Empire. On House Neuros’s watchlist. Close with Wendell.

Newcomers

The founding members don’t yet fully trust them.

  • Tess Aldering (they/them)

Half-Nephilim, Half-Korian | Grad Student | Filimancy & Applied Mathematics Gives suspiciously perfect organizational advice. Sketches geometric doodles constantly.

  • Prudence Ashworth (she/her)

Goblin | History & Chronomancy Old-fashioned. Cites precedent constantly. Can find anything in an archive. Wears her grandmother’s brooch. The library is named after that grandmother.

  • Verity Sinclair (any)

Lagari | Rhetoric & Eidolomancy Charming. Well-liked. Changes background details depending on audience. Gender presentation shifts subtly, constantly.

  • Silas Endicott (he/him)

Half-Human, Half-Sethari | Theology & Animancy Gaunt. Asks unsettling questions about Steamling mortality.

Former Members

  • Ferris Boxer

Steamling | Animancy & Comparative Theology Former Collective member. Left suddenly mid-semester, saying they were going on an important research mission.
